I haven't ever done a series of posts before, and I'm going to even try and include a linky widget so you can add links to whatever theme I've done for this week, which happens to be APRONS, you know, things we use when cooking, painting, cleaning (yes, I do know what that is, I looked it up in the dictionary!) etc to protect our clothes from getting messy, or just because we love wearing them. I know when I'm cooking, if I don't wear one, I sometimes get splatter marks up the front of me, so I have one that I've worn for years, and this post might just be the inspiration I need to update it.....who knows lol

Ok, I shall start off with a link to my Apron board on Pinterest....have you pinterested yet? It's soooo much of a <strike>time-waster</strike> fun lol Links are below the pics.
I know there's way, WAY more apron tutorials out there, so please grab the link and add it to my linky below. Don't forget to come back next week when I'll be posting another Sharing Sunday link up, I haven't decided which subject it will be on, so if you have a suggestion for something you'd like to see, leave me a comment and I'll see which tutorials I can round up for you *smiles*
So, today I was determined to finally get my act together and do the pattern for the USB Wallet I shared with you back in THIS post.

This is the example one I've made for the pattern, the above pic was taken just before I did the topstitching around the outside edge lol
By chance, with my original wallet, I found that when the flap is folded back between the outer sides, you could make the wallet stand up and become more user friendly when not being transported...cool find huh? I think so.

Back when I shared the original post, I mentioned needing a couple of people to test it, I've contacted one person who left a comment for me about being willing to be a pattern tester for me, but I still need a few more, so thought I'd ask here first, before asking on Facebook.

I'm thinking about offering this pattern as my first 'for sale' one....but it might still become a freebie on Craftsy yet lol

Hopefully it won't be long and I'll have a few more testers to go over the pattern, and all editing will be done and the pattern will be ready for purchase.....wish me luck!

Here's the latest quilt I've made for an Aussie Hero who is currently deployed overseas....I know this person wouldn't have a clue who I am, let alone be one of my blog readers, so feel safe in sharing pics of it with you. Like me, this person is an owl lover (I really wish we had an official name, such as owlists or something, but we don't 'insert sad face' )

This quilt is made using the quilt as you go (QAYG) method, where you quilt each block individually then join them, I chose to join them where you add fabric strips front and back, then attach the next block to the back strip then flip the front strip over and sew it down. Sounds confusing, but it's not really lol

I don't know why, but I seem to gravitate towards double sided or reversible quilts, and this one didn't escape! The above pic shows either the front or back, depending on which side you prefer to call them! Below shows what would normally be the back of the quilt, as it has the label on it, but I would happily use it as the front too....I quite like labels on the front, why hide them away I say lol

Yes, some of the blocks are wobbly....on purpose!
I actually 'free handed' the writing on the label....not bad considering I didn't have any lines to follow....even if I do say so myself hee hee

At times, the recipients (or the person requesting a quilt on their behalf) also request a laundry bag for them....I had a few leftover blocks, so incorporated them into the laundry bag, so it matches the quilt.
The quilt and laundry bag went off in the post to it's forever home on Monday....hopefully it arrives safe and sound and the recipient loves the 'hooty hugs' in the form of a quilt.

If you have some extra quilting fabric you no longer want, or would like to become involved with Aussie Hero Quilts, then please pop an email off to the Matriarch (she'll kill me when she sees I've called her that again bahahaha) better known as Jan-Maree HERE or if you'd like to see all the other quilts being churned out Australia wide then click HERE You don't have to be able to sew to get involved....obviously that skill helps, but you can always donate some mailing bags/satchels/boxes or some fabric, or even Spotlight gift cards to assist JM with purchasing fabrics to be used on quilts and laundry bags. It's a great way to say thank you to our guys and gals that get deployed overseas.
My first post is quite laughable really....no pics and only about three lines....as if I ever said so little right? Well apparently I did back then....so much has changed.

In the last 6 years, I've moved house, almost died due to a Hospital E.D. not listening to me, lost my Mother, a sister and a brother, became the proud 'Nanny' to darling grand daughter #2 and even got to cut the chord (!) and have now opened up an online shop/business. So not all lows, there have been highs...and seeing how cute and funny my two gorgeous grand daughters are, would definitely be a highlight on the calendar.

Whilst I don't normally make New Years resolutions, I do plan on having some blog resolutions...such as more regular posting, highlighting patterns I like/dislike (reviews might have been a better choice of phrase lol) and more giveaways. For instance on February 19th this year, it's the Chinese New year, and this year is the Year of the Goat...lets see if I can come up with a unique giveaway for the blog for that day....Hmmmmm thinking cap on now! Might even sneak in a lovey dovey one just before that for Valentines Day....fingers crossed!

So all I really wanted to say was Happy New Year to anyone still reading, and I hope to make my blog more exciting this year.

(BTW, I didn't have room anywhere to take nice pics, coz I'm such a grot and have way too much stuff - did I really just admit that out loud? OMG slaps self on the back of the wrist.....and being that all my goodies deserved a good spotlight, I've 'thieved' the pics from Marc's blog. If you'd like to be astounded at all the great work my lovely friend does, then click HERE)

To set the background story, Khristina of Sew Prim Khris used to have a F.R.I.E.N.D.S Swap on her blog, but when I contacted her about it, she said she wasn't going to be doing it this year for various reasons....so I asked her could I steal the idea (you must all think I'm such a thief now huh? First stealing the swap idea, and then stealing Marc's pics!) and run it at the local Quilting group I was attending....she said yes, so I ran with it!

All up, I think 9 of us participated in the swap, and OMG there were soooo many great new ideas for letters, but enough about that, because I can, yet again, hear you mumbling...stop waffling and show us the pics Nomes...sooooooooooooo here ya go....as seen on this post by Marc are:
Above shows you my F gifts, which was a gorgeous owl fabric bucket (once you've seen all the pics, you'll see that she knows me, and my love for owls really well), Freddo Frog and Five fat quarters. This is a very quick and easy pattern to make....and light on supplies required too....it takes just two fat quarters of fabric, some stiff interfacing, a zip and a magnet......all of which I already had for this one...well kind of....as there's a story attached to it......you see the day Karis of Clobird Designs released the FIONA FOLDING WALLET pattern, available for purchase HERE I bought it and took it along to quilting and one of my friends, Wendy, was making herself a paint brush roll out of this fabric...so I said to her, if you give me a fq of it, I'll make you something out of it.....she ended up giving me half a metre as she couldn't be bothered sub-cutting it to a fq lol I added the plain blue homespun and made her a Fiona folding wallet.....which she loves. I forgot to sew in one of my labels on this one, but have made others (which I'll share pics with you another time) and remembered to put the label in on them hee hee

Karis has a competition running at the moment....which you can read about here on her Facebook Page if you purchase the pattern and enter the competition....be sure to tell her I sent you, so she knows how you found out about the pattern.

Here's a list of the prize package up for grabs.....very generous huh?

<span class="fbPhotosPhotoCaption" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}" id="fbPhotoSnowliftCaption" tabindex="0">What you will win:

* 2 yards of fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics
* 8 magnetic snaps
* 8 7" zippers
* A few extra surprises ~ because I'm just that kinda girl

Now I'm going to try something, and if it doesn't work, I guess I'll just look a bit sillier than usual, but meh, I'm used to looking silly....that's why I get called a dag so often lol For the non Aussie readers, I thought I'd best put an explanation for a dag for you...so you might have an inkling as to why I get called that lol
Please click to play the video I've popped in this post whilst you have a read...fitting song, yes? no? I thought of it as soon as my online friend Maria of Mia Creates blog fame asked me if I'd like to participate in this blog hop. If you'd like to read her post about the Around The World Blog Hop, please click HERE.
Before I go on, I guess I should let you know a few facts about me, that you may or may not already know....

I was due to be born on December 13th, I kind of went dormant (shuddup, it doesn't explain anything, let alone alot about me lmao) for about 2 months, but back in that era, if the baby was still alive, they let you cook as long as you wanted, within reason, and so I arrived on February 22nd, weighing in at a healthy by the late 60's standard baby weights...9lb's 10 oz's.

My favourite colour is purple, has been for years....but it used to be a different colour.....can you guess what colour it was? See below for the giveaway.

I love owls, and have lots of hooty gear and fabric...but always on the lookout for more....hey, it's not a collection once you stop collecting...at least that's what I keep telling people lol

I have 1 daughter (almost 29 yrs old, tomorrow in fact.....Happy Birthday baby girl, love you xxx) and 1 son (16 years old), my daughter has given me two wonderful gifts, in the form of my 2 gorgeous granddaughters, and this is my all time favourite pic of them both.

Now, it's time to get on with the 'official' blog hop stuff.....I have some questions to answer now, as part of the hop, so for new readers, you can learn a little about crazy ol' me lol *Rubs hands together.....come in to my parlour said the spider to the fly!*
Recently, I made 2 Bionic Gear Bags, for 2 very close friends (1 is my bestie!)....I really need to make me one, because Terri and Marc, well more so Terri, keeps rubbing my nose in it, that they've got BGB's and I haven't lol Here's their two that I made.
Plus I have run out of spots to 'stash' my fabric anyway haha) of fabric that I've been collecting for years, so some is more dated to say the least. This is a pic of just part of my collection of fabric....the collection kind of spans across a few bedrooms and the living room/lounge room!

I know that's not an explanation as to why, but it's why I create the things I do....because I can....is that a better answer? lol I enjoy creating things, whether they be my own design, or using a tutorial or pattern that someone else has designed.

If you had asked me 7 years ago, if I'd ever make a quilt, then I would probably still be laughing at you...I used to joke around in a friends online group, that I was never going down the quilting vortex, but now, I've made a few quilts, some were following patterns and some were just what I like to call 'put togethers' as in you have a pile of blocks and you work out how many are needed for the desired quilt size (which in my case, is usually for Aussie Hero Quilts) and sew them together....Shock, horror and amazement, I even FMQ (Free Motion Quilt) most of them myself lol

*Insert drumroll* My nominations for next Mondays (8th September) Around the World Blog hop posts are:-

Patricia whom I met just a short while ago via Facebook, and I was laughing as she'd put links to blogposts in the FB group showing her messy sewing room....between you, me and the lamp post, hers is like a showroom studio at it's worst compared to mine at its best...and no, I'm not showing you mine lol To read her Around the world blog hop post, click HERE next Monday and whilst you're there, consider following her blog....she doesn't have many followers, and I think she deserves millions :)

In my efforts to find another person to participate in the blog hop, I asked Marc from Daisy-Jayne...you might remember her from the FRIENDS swap last year....we ended up partnered together....and just so happen to live in neighbouring towns...so we manage to catch up at least once a fortnight, if not more often. She's crazy, vivacious, creative, clever and oh so funny. Go on over and check out her blog post, by clicking HERE.

I'll be popping a reminder post up next monday in case you forget to go check their blogs out!

Ok, now for the giveaway.....if you would like the chance to be the lucky new owner of this item
(Mini Tutorial)I just checked my emails and I had one from Missouri Quilt Co....Jenny was showing us the following video for a JRR (Jelly Roll Race) quilt version 3.0

It was whilst watching her do the triangles that I thought of this technique that Ricky Tims & Alex Anderson shared

Then......I thought oooooh, what if I combined the two techniques...and so I madly scrambled to the cutting mat (ok, so it might have been stumbled over fabric etc to get to the cutting mat, but we won't go there lol), found a few pieces of fabric in the right sizes, because I don't want to try it on a big size project if it ain't gonna work, right?

So I cut myself two x 2 & 1/2" strips by the width of this roll of fabric I have (the roll is approx 9 & 3/8" wide) THEN, I cut a 2 & 1/2" x 4 & 1/2" rectangle in another colour fabric.

I folded the rectangle together with the wrong sides together. As shown in this next pic.

Have your 2 & 1/2" (Jelly Roll strip) strip laying horizontally with the r/s facing up, place the folded rectangle onto either the left or right hand bottom corner of the longer strip. Make sure that the fold is at the top, click on the pic to enlarge it to see it better *Note, it shouldn't matter which end you do, so long as you are consistant, especially if you're doing this on a quilt sized project.

In the next pic, I've put my scissors on the fabric to show where the fold of the rectangle should be.

Now take the next 2 & 1/2" strip and place it on top, to create a sandwich, making sure to place it r/s facing down.

Now you're going to sew down either the right or left hand seam...depending on which end you've placed the folded unit between the two jelly roll strips. In the pic, I sewed down the side seam indicated by my thumb!

(This next bit I didn't take pics of, but it is shown in the video down a bit further.) Take your work to your iron, and you are going to set the stitching first, then you'll open up your jelly roll strip so that the seam allowance is away from the goose! Press this nice and flat. Now you're going to reach in under the goose.....no, not to tickle his belly, but to open the goose out....spread his wings so to speak!

Once that's done, and you're happy with how the bottom edges are lined up, press your goose down really nicely, you want a nice crease along the triangle edges, especially if you're doing this as a JRR (Jelly Roll Race quilt....guess this one is 4.0 or would it be 3.1??) as the geese are going to be loose until you start sewing the long strip together as you would normally do.

This pic shows the front view

And in this one, you can see the back view

If you're making this as a smaller project, such as on a pouch. bag or tablerunner, then just add strips either side as I did in the crappy video below.

Once you've either sewn strips to either side, or you've finished making the JRR quilt top, then you get to Cathedral window the geese....however many you've done or want to do....because this version of the geese have bias edges to them, they soooo easily curve towards the centre and make a really nice effect...see the video and pics for more explanations.

Hopefully I've explained this good enough for you to understand....do you like it? I do, and I will be trying it out on a quilt size project soon....wish me luck.

I'm not claiming this as all my own idea, but more like inspired by Jenny Doan and The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims. If you know of someone else who has already done this technique, please let me know...and I'll happily give them credit. I wouldn't even know where to begin to name it apart from JRR Version 3.1 or 4.0 lol

Now it's your turn...if you try this mini tutorial out, please let me know and send me a link to where you have the pics of the block so I can see how yours turned out.

Well, here's where the video will be...eventually, it's taking what seems like an eternity for the block to upload to my dropbox, so hopefully I can work out how to share it on here directly from there, or I'll have to upload it to YouTube and then embed it here...bear with me, the video is coming, I promise.

Update....the video is in my dropbox, so fingers crossed it will be right under this paragraph by the time I submit this post. Sadly it is too big to be embedded, so for now I will share the link to the video in my dropbox, and whilst I sleep tonight, I'll upload it to YouTube and pop it in later.

Error alert...in the video I tell you to fold the rectangle in half with the r/s together....the observant viewer will have noticed it should be w/s together......ignore my jammie sleeve in the video, and my fluff bunny coated iron. No laughing at my accent either lol

I couldn't resist sharing this cartoon I just saw on Facebook....I know you want to know why.....so here goes, one of my readers' (name withheld to protect me!), was telling me a while back, that when she goes to her Pilates class and once they get all warmed up and start doing the class, she always gets the urge to pass wind.....from the look of the cartoon, she may not be the only one who fights the urge hey? lol Wonder how long it'll take her to realise this post is for her benefit lol

Till next time, happy sewing

I have a few things that I have finally uploaded pics for, and thought I would share them with you tonight.....hope your eyes are ready for a photo feast? I hope they're not disappointed lol

First up, is a pincushion, you can never have too many of them I reckon, but this one is like the big Momma pincushion that presides over all other pincushions lol

The pattern has you leave a gap along the bottom edge of the pocket section....and I don't like having to hand stitch through so many layers, so I used my creative licence and altered the construction of the pattern....guess where? I made the wedges up as per the pattern, but once the top piece was done, I folded it up and cut a bit off the centre bit, to make a hole.....this is where I turned it the right way out, and also how I put the stuffing in...then I covered it all with those two yo yo's. Check out the super cute scissor buttons...and woot woot they're purple too. (Pattern is from The Patchwork Cow)

Next up, is two Bionic Gear Bags.....which you can purchase the pattern for here. Sally Thompson, the lady who is behind the Bionic Gear Bag (BGB) pattern, is a really lovely lady, and if you go check out her website here, you can see not only her video on how much stuff she fits in her BGB, but you can see all the other colour combo's that other people have made.

First up is my bestie's BGB....it was part of her birthday present a couple of weeks ago (yes, it's take me 12 days to pull my finger out and upload the pics lol) She now has even more stuff inside it than when I took the photos....coz these bags hold a WHOLE bunch of stuff...and now Terri has one big pouch instead of about 4 that she used to tote around with her to quilting!

Terri is like me, she loves owls, and her favourite colour is purple....makes it hard to have 'unique' hooty stuff I can tell ya lol

Next up is Marc's BGB....I made it as part of her birthday present too, but it's not her birthday till next month, but I had kind of mentioned to her that I was making her and Terri the same thing....so she got her BGB about a month early....her fabric tastes are 'country' so I went shopping in my stash and these are the colours I came up with for hers.
In the front right of the last pic of Marc's you can see the small fabric dish...it's held in place with magnets, and you can use the gap behind the dish, in the corner there, to stand your pens, small scissors etc. I believe they both like them, Marc must like hers so far, as I couldn't spy a single baked bean or tomato sauce stain anywhere lol (Sorry Marc xx)

If you want to make a BGB, then please click HERE to go purchase the pattern, you won't regret it.

Next up, is a USB wallet that I designed ages ago...in fact it was about 12 months ago, and I can't remember if I've shown you before or not, and I'm too lazy to go check previous posts (am still in disgust at losing my template etc so am still sulking with my blog lol)...so either tah dah, here it is, or here it is again lol
I'm in the process of doing a tutorial for the USB wallet....and will need someone, maybe two people to test it...if you're interested in being a tutorial tester for me, please leave a comment....ideally, I'd like a relatively new sewist as well as an experienced one, so I can guage whether my destructions (instructions hee hee) make sense.....these would make a great stocking filler...especially for the geeks in the family lol

Ahhhhh, it feels sooooo good to be sharing pics of a few projects.....and if anyone makes the BGB, I'd love to see the pics....I know I'll be making some more soon....one for me is next on the BGB to do list.

I've just spent the last couple of hours trying to find more details about a quilt pattern I tested for someone...I know we were corresponding through my Gmail account, and I normally save 'special' emails into folders, but for the life of me, I can't find any from her to me or me to her anywhere in my Gmail.

I can however let you know that I first had contact with her a couple of years ago, and then her life got in the way and I didn't hear back from her regarding the test pattern again, until I think it was either late last year or early this year.....I'm going to go with early this year, because then I don't feel so bad at only sharing the pics of the quilt now.

As you may all know, I kind of have a soft spot for owls..well derr lol So it was a no brainer when Sue Lynn contacted me to see if I was still interested in testing the pattern for her. Here's the link to her blog, where you can keep updated with any future patterns she releases....now with disclosure in mind, I must tell you, that her owl quilt pattern is actually needleturned, which I didn't do....yet, but will be, however I did thoroughly read her pattern, and could follow it along, and found no errors.

Yes, yes, I know, stop waffling Naomi and just show us the pics!
The test blocks were mixed in with both donated blocks and some I made to fill in the spaces....and was sent off to an Aussie Hero, to thank her for her time away from home. Below are a few close ups of the owl blocks. The quilt request was for owls and pastels....I think I nailed it didn't I? I must've, because I received a lovely email saying how much the quilt meant to the new owner....R! (Name withheld for privacy reasons)
Below you can see the 'cheater' Paris fabric I used on the back, this was donated to AHQ by Berri Uniting Church, and it works great as backing, even though its a bit too pretty really!
And of course, a close up of the quilt label.....I like to add mine to the front usually, but broke my tradition and added this one on the back.....I also like to add them before the quilting is done, so there's no chance of it falling off at some stage!
Ooooh, and before I forget, I FMQ'd this myself....and yes, I am crap at it....but it's done with love....now if I can just get my hand/foot synchronisation happening, I won't get all those loooonnnnng stitches every now and then, and those pesky eye lashes on the back.....need more practice = good excuse to make more quilts right?
Thank you,
Terrie
Customer Service Coordinator

Now I don't see anywhere in my contact form where I suggested that I'd been into a store...or is that how it comes across to you? But Terrie's response doesn't even come close to answering what I wanted to know.....wish they'd just hurry up and offer shipping to Australia lol

I have been busy sewing and cutting out the last couple of days, but you're gonna have to wait till Tuesday to see the finished goodies....as 2 are presents for friends....1 definately reads the blog, so I can't ruin her surprise, even if it would mean I wouldn't have to wrap her gift hahaha (Bad luck Marc, you'll just have to wait till Tuesday....it's about a month early anyway lol)

Gotta drag out one of the old clunker machines (sorry Bertha!) as I'm up to a point where it's thick seams, and the old faithful Janome will sew through it like a hot knife through butter, whereas the MC9000 doesn't like the thicker seams so much, so she's on vacation tomorrow, well later today....lol
I certainly don't lol

So, I decided that as my blog background host no longer offers the free version of the background I was using, that I would go with a different one altogether, as it seemed the almost defunct version of my blog template was where this mystery link was from.

As the line from one of my favourite movies goes (ala Pretty Woman fame) big mistake, HUGE

I lost everything apart from my posts, about me and one other thing....it was bare bones....skeletal even....so I started messing some more, tried a couple more templates, and again found out it 'stole' stuff and wouldn't give it all back to me, so I rolled up my sleeves, put on my big girl panties and messed around with html (woah, isn't that a scary thing to try and 'speak' eeeek lol) and have now got a blogger hosted template, my own taste in colours somewhat, and I'm supposed to even have a different font, yet as I sit here and type this, the font looks the same....will pass judgement when I click publish lol

For those with eagle eyes, you may have noticed that I've changed the name of the blog....this is to reflect the labels I sew onto items I make (apart from Aussie Hero Quilts, they have official labels on them) and will be matching the name of my new online shop that I'm opening up soon...much to my daughters' dismay, it still isn't open....feel free to keep commenting to tell me to hurry up and open it up....my daughter will love you eternally for being motivational to her ever so procrastinational (is that even a word? If not, I claim it as my blondinese invention!) mother lol

I don't believe I've ever done a post without a pic, so will find one to add in here, as with everything else that's gone on here today, I'd hate to start posting with no image to entice you all in lol

I'll try and minimize the amount of changes I make to the blog, and for those whose buttons I had on the side bar...please comment so I can visit your blog or site and add them back on.....soooooo frustrated I tell ya!

On the plus side, Angela, who can be just a little bit fussy at times (if you make/give her something and she says "nice" be assured that she's not keen on it lol) loved it...PHEW....she also got the box of Peanut M&M's under the pouch coz she loves M&M's and collect their memorabilia...in fact, I helped Terri with an M&M wallhanging for Ange's birthday. Will grab a pic off Terri so you can see what a great job she did of it.

I am still going through pics so there maybe more posts on the horizon.

Oh, and while I still have your attention, Aussie Hero Quilts could really do with some more Aussie Hero Friends....if you would like to assist them, please either email Jan-Maree by clicking here, or head on over to the Aussie Hero blog and find out how to get involved. She was presented with the quilt yesterday, and was overwhelmed to put it mildly.

As you may all know, healing heart blocks are made by several people and then joined together, either by the recipient, or, as in the case of this quilt, by one of the quilters (OMG, did I just clasify myself as a quilter? lol) who made a block.

As I mentioned yesterday (at least I think I did), I put the blocks together using QAYG....no fancy quilting, I just quilted around the hearts on the blocks.

Above, is the label for the quilt, which I put on the front (which is kind of my trademark if you've seen the Aussie Hero Quilts I've made) as we were one block short to make an even amount, and I didn't want to relegate 3 peoples' blocks to the back of the quilt! Talking of the back of the quilt, there's a bit of a story attached to that.....I cut up the red check patterned fabric into squares to use as backing, and ended up being a couple short......grrrrrrrrrrrr so what was a gal to do, but go find another fabric in her stash to mix with it......I think the red blender fabric works well with it, and as you can see in the pic below, makes a great secondary quilt should Pat ever want the hearty hugs closer to her.

Now, I'm all for finding techniques on the net and trying them out, and the binding on Pats' quilt was one of those times.....I tried and tried to see how THIS technique would work out in my mind, and then just decided I would have to try it....so cut, sew, attach, 7-8 hours of hand stitching the binding down and voila.....two sided binding technique......check It's amazing how it turned out, even if I do say so myself....no sections where the dividing seam wasn't on the edge of the quilt and I highly recommend the tutorial to anyone who is looking for a binding that's a little bit different. If you want to try it out yourself, click the above link to the tutorial.

So, there you have it.....another quilt made and gifted to someone in need. I think those types of quilts are the best, coz you get the warm fuzzies when you see the delight on the recipients' face, or get a note/email saying how receiving the quilt made them feel. I love that feeling.
Wow, has it really been 'that' long since I did a post? According to the date stamp on my last post, yes, yes it has.

I have been sewing, and crocheting, but I don't have pics of everything to share with you just yet, as I have to either take photos, or find that safe place that I saved them in!

I do have a couple of pics to share with you, both are of WIP's, but the quilt is now finished, and perhaps I shouldn't be sharing a pic of it just yet, as the recipient hasn't received it, but by the time I publish this post, she will have, so I think I'm safe lol

First up, is a crochet blanket I'm making....using whatever balls of pink, blue, white or purple yarn I had lying around in my stash spots (we all have those right?)

I took the photo with it sitting on top of my queen sized bed, so you have an idea of the size of it.....I still have a few more rows to add to it before I call it done....oh and I need to sew in all those pesky ends, which is my least favourite part of crocheting, which is why I tend to leave them to the last lol

This pattern is called Drop in the pond, and is a free pattern on Ravelry, which you can grab for yourself by clicking HERE

Next up, is a Healing Heart quilt I suggested that my quilting group do for one of the members who has had some health woes. I got everyone to make 12 & 1/2" heart blocks, in THEIR favourite colour...and of the 19 blocks, there wasn't two the same, and I think they look great in their multi coloured splendidness, don't you?

I ended up putting them together using the Quilt as you Go Method. I didn't quite have enough of the backing fabric to make the back out of one print, so I did half and half, and made it a checkerboard pattern. I'll show you pics of the finished quilt after we present the quilt to the recipient at quilting (today - as I'm postponing publishing this post until after she'll have received the quilt, because I have my blogger account linked with my Facebook account, and she's one of my FB friends....don't want her reading about her own surprise early now do I? lol)

When I joined the QAYG blocks, I used two different colour sashings, so when it came time to decide what I'd do for binding, I remembered seeing a two sided binding method, which worked perfectly on this quilt, and I highly recommend it to you for a different take on two colour binding......just make sure you cut/sew it using the measurements that you'll find HERE

I promise to show you the pics of the finished quilt, as I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, and I also promise to get back into more regular posting.....I spend so much time on the internet, I should have the most up to date blog out there, but sadly I've been slack.....well, it is my middle nickname after all lol

Oh, I also need to post some pics of the trip to Melbourne I just took with my gorgeous daughter, and her two little princesses.....I think my feet didn't know what hit them, but I survived and for a whirlwind trip, it was a blast.
So now, without further adieu, I announce to you, Justice Ella G************ (Surname isn't that many characters, but just protecting the familia!)

She is a good baby and ever so pretty, so we'll keep her lol I know it took me a while to put the pic up, but I wanted to wait till I knew everything was ok first.

As she's so tiny, I wanted to make her a little dress that would fit her, so I made her one of those cross over pinafore jobbies! Here it is:

For most of you who know me, you will know I profess to NOT doing clothes, however, how could I resist, and I'd had this Birdie fabric obviously in preparation for Justice's arrival. I did plan on making a quilt with it, but I think it looks quite cute as a dress, don't ya think?

I'm off on Monday to spend some time with her, her big sister TaShie and her Mum n Dad....back on 12th Feb...but will try and post some pics of my 3 gorgeous girls while I'm away.

Due to me going away, and trying to get everything ready, and dealing with the heatwaves we've been having here of late, I haven't organised/made anything for my Birthday (in 21 days!) this year, so it might be a little late....or maybe I'll be able to quickly rustle something up between now and Monday so I can pop it on the blog...so stay tuned....that's if anyone still reads my blog.

For those experiencing the Polar Vortex, stay safe and warm, and for those in my neck of the woods, drink plenty of water, stay cool and keep an eye on kids, oldies and pets....for they can suffer so badly in this weather.
For those of you who know me, my subject choice is a very scary title, but if you want to know what I mean this time, click HERE and check the list out.

I definately have a 'sable' but am always up for a 'fart' but so far I haven't made many 'wombats' how about you??? Which of the acronyms can you relate to? Or do you have some to share that aren't on that list? I'd love to see them

Talking of acronyms...in one of the groups I'm in, one of the lovely 'mature' quilters said she'd just found out what "WTF?" stood for, and was mortified....for ages she'd been using it....thinking it stood for "WOW, that's fantastic" lmao....I can imagine the face of her grandchildren on showing her their latest school project, and her happily exclaiming "WTF" lol

On that note, I'm outta here for now, but before I do, here's a cute owl project that you can make for yourself, Carla at The Scientific Seamstress shares a pdf download for how to make them. I'm going to make some up...and they'll be available for purchase if you can't sew, don't have the time or can't be bothered making them yourself....keep 'em peeled for the link to when my new online shop is officially launched. Click on the photo below to go grab the pdf from Carla's blog.

I've sat and deliberated over them for a couple (maybe it's a few!) weeks, trying to pluck up the courage to cut into at least one of the bags....Yesterday became the do or die day....and I hacked and sewed and designed on the fly.....here's the fruits of my labours.

This is the shirt in it's uncut state.

In case you're wondering, I've smudged out his name badge, to protect his identity...but on the actual bag, the name shows up....I just don't think I should be brandishing his name about in cyber space....but around South Australia on my bag, it'll be fine lol

Then, after holding my tongue to the west and the scissors to the east, and with a snip snip here and a snip snip there, I had gone too far to stop.

I managed to get a fairly decent size tote/shoulder bag, a zippered pouch and a coin purse/phone holder out of the one shirt...you beauty...that means there'll be enough for me to make me a decent sized bag, and maybe a coin purse like the one pictured below.

I removed the Aussie logo off the sleeve and sewed it (yes, I must've had my eyes crossed when I lined it up for middle....I should've used a tape measure huh?) onto the panel for the zippered pouch.
At 11am on the 11th November, we have a minutes silence because at 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. A short while ago, I spied the pic below on my friends' Facebook page and thought I would share it here, for those of my friends who don't do Facebook.

First up is a tablerunner top...not technically a finish, but it's a 'hope to be finished soon' kinda deal lol

Quick and easy tablerunner....4 solid corner squares and the rest is all hst's...it doesn't all have to be one colour for the patterned bits....you could do two colours and a solid background colour and also use hst's on the corners, but face them dark side to the corners....even a scrappy one would look good. To make it, work out what size you want the finished squares to be and add half an inch....so I started with 5 & 1/2" squares, made my hst's and trimmed them to 5". Sew them together in rows, alternating the way the seams are pressed on each row, so they nestle together and play nicely lol Then sew the rows together....and tah dah a tablerunner that's quick, easy and effective looking. Back and batt it and then quilt it as desired, bind it and you're all done (labelling is an optional extra), pat yourself on the back.

Next is a birthday block for one of the 'gals' at the quilting group I attend....her birthday was a while back, but with her being away, and then me being away, I haven't had the chance to give it to her.....but here's the block (2nd one, I misplaced the first one!) I made for Heather B, who wanted teddy bears on black.
Later on in the year, once the last gal has her block, I'll post a photo of all the blocks I made this year....next year I think I'll try and get some of the girls interested in doing a squishy fq swap for birthdays....I have enough quilt blocks from swaps to keep me busy next year, without adding another quilt full lol

Lastly, today I went to my friend Carols place, and she foiled me...well, not me exactly, she did foils on my hair....so I went with this hair colour....

And came home this colour.....
Think I need eye surgery....my eyes are uneven lol Think it was all those years of wearing my long hair plaited over to one side of my head....will try and find a pic of it one day, so you can see why I think it's my hairs fault that I have wonky eyes lol

Till next time
