Thought I'd show you the new block I just tried out.....sooooo quick and easy....this one has ended up just over 9" square, and I used 5 x 5" charm squares to make it.
The middle bit is square when you first open the block out, but I opted to sew the edges down in like a sort of mock cathedral window.....will make more of these for sure.
The above pic shows a close up of the centre square and what I did to make the pretty shape! It wasn't my idea, Suzanne McNeill mentions doing the exact same thing in her video on YouTube, which can be seen by clicking here. If you make some, please email me a pic or two of them, so I can see what colour schemes you come up with.
Oh....I love this block....and the owl next to your comment box.
ReplyDeleteLooks great N. I'll have to check out the video.
ReplyDeletePS Your word is 'metalgra' ;-)
Your block looks great! The design has so many possibilities with all the gorgeous fabric available.
ReplyDeleteGreat square, Naomi!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Love it. On my way to check out the video. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great looking block. If you do a whole quilt using batiks and this block, imagine the interresting look you would have. Stained glass for sure.
ReplyDeleteNaomi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to this block- what a great block and so fast- probably not quite as fast as Suzanne Mc Neill makes it look but I sure love the look of it.
I love the colors you used in your block.
Regards,
Anna
Love it ! Very creative and unique!
ReplyDeletethanks Naomi...I tried this but didn't have right sides together so will rip it out and start over!! That's what happens when you want to try something reallllly quick before you leave for work!! GREAT idea and thank you so much for the link!!
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe first block I was taught to make at patchwork class was a Cathedral Window block... I went home and made 82 of them in one week... with all of them machine and hand sewn! I made Brylee a quilt with them. I shudder now when I think of how much time I spent hand sewing them.
great block. I went right away to you tube to check it out. rememberd I had a bunch of 4 1/2" squares from the B-day club and started to work right away. I hope to get it finished quilting this weekend. It will be scrapy green and brown. Thank you so much for showing me this blog.
ReplyDeleteNow that looks VERY flash! Well done!
